· By Metro: the closest metro stop to the Hostel is "OPERA" (lines , & ) which is less than a 2 minute walk from our front door. SOL is also a very central and good stop to get off at if arriving via Metro, we are about 10 minute walk from the SOL Metro station (lines , & ).

- If you get off the Metro at "OPERA", simply cross the Plaza de Isabel II and head up "Calle Campomanes" (Burger King on the corner).

or...

- From Metro stop "SOL", head down "Calle El Arenal" and when you get to the Plaza de Isabel II, simply cross the Plaza diagonally and head up "Calle Campomanes" (Burger King on the corner).

See our MAP for street layout.

We are at #6 of "Calle Campomanes", on the right hand side of the street about half way up. The hostel is located on the 4th flor and there is an elevator for your convenience.

FROM BARAJAS AIRPORT

· By Metro: if you are arriving to terminal 1 (international terminal), you must first go to terminal #2 (domestic terminal) where you will find the Metro entrance to get to the city.

The walk indoors from terminal 1 (indicated as T1) to terminal 2 (indicated as T2) is between 10 and 15 minutes depending on how much baggage you have and how fast or slow you walk. When you leave the baggage claim area and come out of your gate into terminal 1, you must walk right and head up the automatic conveyor belt to the upper level (international departures) of the terminal and keep walking straing towards T2. You will pass the airline ticket offices on your left and the check-in counters on your right. Walk straight down the hallway which will narrow as you pass "Cafetería Neptuno" on your right hand side. You will pass over a few conveyor belt walkways, continue straight until you see another conveyor belt that you can take to the left (on your right there is an information desk). Make that left and you will go down another hallway with 2 more conveyor belts and then the passageway opens up into a glassed-in area with a few more automatic walkways. After the second, go towards your left and you will see a hugesign hanging from the ceiling. When you go down the escalator or stairs you will see the ticket counter ahead. If you are going to be in Madrid for a bit, you may want to buy the 10 trip (diez viajes) "Metrobus" ticket (5 Euros) as it will save you quite a bit of money. You can share the ticket with others as well by passing it through the turnstyle and then giving it to a friend to do the same. You can also buy a single use (billete sencillo) ticket if you prefer for 95 Eurocents.

Once past the turnstyle, go down the stairs on your left, this direction will take you into the city of Madrid. You will be getting on line , take it to the end of the line and get off at "Nuevos Ministerios". At "Nuevos Ministerios", follow signs for the line in the direction of "Puerta del Sur". Take that line  5 stops and get off at "Príncipe Pío". Follow the signs for the "Ramal Opera - Príncipe Pío" (indicated by a sign). That line will take you one stop to the "Opera" station, end of the line. Come up to street level and follow the directions under "- If you get off the Metro at "OPERA" above.

This is the easiest and fastest Metro route to our hostel.

Helpful links for arriving via Metro
(live from Madrid Metro Website)

· By Bus: more of a hassle, harder on the wallet and not as recommended as the Metro but also an option. Busses circulate between the airport and the Plaza de Colón in Madrid. These busses run between 6am and 1am and leave from outside of the international arrivals terminal (T1 downstairs). Trip costs 2.40€ (Euros), have exact change or a bill no larger than 5 Euros for the driver. You will still need to get the Metro from Plaza Colón to our hostel. From Colón, take Metro line one stop in the direction of "Argüelles" and get off at "Alonso Martínez". Change there to line and head in the direction of "Casa de Campo". Go 4 stops and get off at "Opera". Follow the "- If you get off the Metro at "OPERA" directions above.

· By Airport Shuttle: Aerocity (www.aerocity.com) offers an excellent and reasonably priced airport shuttle van to the city. Best to make a reservation but not absolutely necessary. The vans can be found outside of the international arrivals terminal (T1 downstairs) near the far end of the terminal. More info and reservations taken at www.aerocity.com.

· By Taxi: while in a perfect world taxi drivers would all be honest and charge you the correct fair, Madrid is far from perfect with respect to this subject. A taxi from the airport to Los Amigos should not cost more than 25 Euros (average price is 18€ to our part of town). Taking a taxi from the airport is not recommended due to the taxi rip-offs for such a ride. If you plan on taking a taxi in Madrid, please see this helpful TAXI SMARTS ADVICE PAGE.
